Reconstruction Post-TraumaIt’s very common to see kids running and jumping everywhere and it is inevitable for them to fall down and sometimes hit their mouth.

There are several things that you as a mom or dad can expect if this accident happens. The upper or lower lip injury bleeds a lot so the first thing to do is stop the bleeding by applying firm pressure to the area. When you achieve a proper blood clot you are going to look in the oral cavity for a broken or loose tooth and bleeding. This information is crucial for your dentist.

If the tooth falls out of the oral cavity, look for it, grab the tooth by the coronal part (it’s the area of the tooth that you can see) and wash it with plain water do not scrub because periodontal ligament can detach. Now you can re-introduce the tooth into its original place or take it do the dentist office in a vase with milk to keep the humidity.

When a tooth is broken but in its place, or have some mobility and blood around, it’s possible that the tooth will need a root canal treatment. The dentist will eventually have to make a crown to repair the damage.

The actions that you take after an accident where the oral cavity is involved can determine its treatment. You can make the difference.
